Feline Dentistry - Interactive Case-Based Learning

The course is delivered in an innovative interactive case-based style. This gives you the opportunity to work with cases and apply your understanding with feedback provided at each decision point to direct you in your understanding of treating feline dentistry cases.

The course focusses on practical theory that will be useful in your day-to-day clinic. You will be presented with a variety of different cases to work through and apply the theory you have learnt, without the possibility of real-life patients being harmed. There are many interactive activities for you to complete, for example dental charting tasks and anaesthesia decision-making activities.

Course Preview

By the end of the course you will have the confidence to identify dental abnormalities and persuade cat owners to consent to further investigation and treatment. You will know how to formulate and carry out the ideal treatment plan for the individual, resulting in patients free of oral discomfort and happy owners!

Outline

The course will includes the following modules:

Module 1: The consultation
In this module you are welcomed into the consultation waiting room where you will find the cats waiting for their initial consultations. Here you will be able to invite each cat into your clinic and take them through their consultations. During each consultation you be introduced to the patient, learn about why the owner brought them to the clinic and if they have any symptoms. Through interactive tasks, you will perform their conscious examinations, explain your findings to the owners and recommend the next steps that should be taken. After examining all the cats you will be able to identify pathology that requires further investigation and confidently promote further investigation to owners.

Module 2: Further investigations
In this module you are welcomed into the preparation waiting room where you will find cats waiting to be prepared for anaesthesia so that the oral and dental abnormalities identified during their consultations can be investigated in depth. Here you can select each cat to be prepared for anaesthesia and carry out their further investigations so that you can confirm their diagnosis and formulate a treatment plan.

Module 3: Treatment
In this module you will be welcome into the treatment waiting room where you will find cats waiting to have their treatment plans carried out. You will be guided through the cases and be provided with oppotunity to carry out the steps involved making choices and presented with feedback at each stage.

Module 4: Post-operative and preventative care

In this final module you will be welcomed into the dental clinic waiting room. In the dental clinic you will be advising your patient's owner on post-operative and preventative care and be carrying out their dental checks.
